Objectives:

  • Measuring volume
  • Recording observations
  • Estimating

Supplies:

  • small cube blocks
  • play dough (for instructions on making your own click here)
  • pencil
  • paper

Instructions:

  • Have your child make a simple shape with the dough.
  • Ask him to guess about how many cubes it would take to make the same shape.
  • Have him make the same basic shape with blocks and compare his guess with the actual number of blocks
  • Help him make a chart to record his estimates with the actual number of blocks he uses as he makes more complex shapes with the dough and the blocks.
