These are math lessons your child doesn’t have to know are lessons. Incorporating them into play is pretty easy.

Objectives:

    Measurement with nonstandard units
    Chart keeping
Compare objects according to observable attributes
Compare and order objects in graduated order
    Pattern recognition
    Counting

Instructions:

    1) Measure things with blocks and let the kids record the results on a simple chart made by you with either numbers or pictures.

    2) Compare stacks of blocks (small, medium, large, big, bigger, biggest) and place them in gradutated order by height.

    3) Make patterns with blocks and predict which block comes next.

    4) Count the blocks and then see what happens when you add one or take one away.
